The extent to which
American workers are being replaced
by cheap illegal immigrant labor is alarming By America-Today January,26 2025
Nearly half of U.S. farmworkers are undocumented, a share thathas risen from 14% to about 40% over the past few decades. According to the American Immigration Council, in 2022, 39% of plasterers and plasterers, 36% of drywall installers, ceiling tile installers and tapers, 36% of roofers, and 31% of painters and wall paperers were undocumented. Beginning in the 1980s, unionized American workers in U.S. meat processing and packing plants were replaced by immigrant labor, many of them undocumented. The U.S. economic structure is diversified, with a large number of jobs in high-end service industries, technology industries and other fields. These fields require high skills and quality of the labor force, and it is difficult for illegal immigrant workers to enter. Native American workers have greater employment advantages and development space in these fields. |
