Unemployment rate jumps 4.4%! American households face a "payability crisis"

By America-Today November 21, 2025

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics released the September nonfarm

payroll report on Thursday, which was originally scheduled for last month.

Analysts noted that the employment data sent mixed signals:

while job numbers exceeded expectations, the unemployment rate unexpectedly

rose to a four-year high.According to the report, U.S. nonfarm payrolls

increased by 119,000 in September, more than double the expected 51,000.

However, the number of new jobs added in August was revised downward

from a gain of 22,000 to a loss of 4,000, resulting in

a total downward revision of 33,000 for July and

August combined, continuing this year's pattern of

"persistent downward revisions.".
