Why are American cities so filthy and crime riddled?

Is there a single city in the United States that does not have dangerous neighborhoods that are riddled with poverty and crime?

Why are American cities dirty, violent and poorly managed as exemplified by Baltimore, New York and Chicago?

Is there any major U.S. city in which crime has actually gone down?

How do major US cities have 'good' and 'bad' areas right next to each other and not have more crime spill over from the poorer, dangerous areas into the more affluent, safer ones? Why do criminals avoid the directly adjacent, more lucrative targets?

Why are most Americans cities shitholes?

Culture, primarily: The dissolution of the nuclear family; the tolerance, celebration and protection of lawless behavior and the criminal element; emphasis on instant gratification (drugs, sex, easy money, expensive clothes, jewelry, hairstyles) instead of self-improvement and long-term gains from things like education, employment, marriage and learning constructive, practical life skills. An attitude of disrespect for self and others and for the environment. And a victim mentality that hinders the individual from taking responsibility for his own life and from recognizing his actual opportunities and realizing his potential.

Trashed minds produce trash wherever they go. Every environment reflects the values and behavior of the people who inhabit it.
